Approved Comenius Multilateral Partnership, 2011 - 2013 Work will begin in September 2011 Project co-ordinator is Gayle Fletcher (St Paul's COE Primary, Gloucester) gayle.fletcher5@googlemail.com
Theme: Looking after our world: young Europeans build a sustainable future together
Teaching the children to ‘Learn how to learn’ will underpin the whole project. We will begin the project with all schools involved teaching six lessons on ‘Brain Matters’, thus enabling all our children to understand their own learning and thinking (materials developed by the BRAIN MATTERS Project, University of Oxford, UK). Through transforming their thinking about their own learning we envisage that the children will play a central role in shaping the development of the work within the partnership.
The Brain Matters Project has been developed in several schools in Gloucester, led by professors from Oxford University and the Institute of the Future mind. The six lessons teach children about the brain and how it works, thus enabling them to discover how they learn and achieve a more flexible mindset. The main aim is - Promoting brain awareness :changing the way the way children think.
The main curricular aim is the joint creation and shaping of environmentally friendly, sustainable schools, where each partner will work towards an environmental award or certificate (such as the Bronze Eco Award in the UK, the Green Flag in Sweden and Spain). This will ensure all schools have a common environmental purpose and shared vision of their future school and community.
Pupils involved will complete an audit of the needs of the school and the local area, in terms of how best to improve their environment, working closely with parents and the wider local community. Units of learning will then focus on: Where we live and where we learn; Water and waterways; Our natural world; Renewable energy.
